Who am I foolowing and why?!

On twitter I instinctively decided my "following"! The number increased during the Social Media classes but the first five I chose were:

FoodNetwork because I really love good food and I want to be updated about new trends

GMG italiano because I participated last summer at the World Youth Day and I cannot wait for the next one in Rio2013.

Booking.com because I always consult this website when I’m organizing a trip and I really like it.

Walt Disney Pictures because I love all the Walt Disney movies and cartoons and I really enjoy their magic atmosphere.

Ambasciata U.S.A. because I’m going to do my internship at the italian Consulate in San Francisco the next 3 months.

Facebook Marketing

Companies can use three major different ways to market on facebook: pages, ads and groups. Pages are the best way to do it because they offer to the company a wide range of tools to give the public information, entertain it and interact with it. Ads can be very expensive and, even though well targeted, customers can close those they don't like. Groups try to give the customers a feeling of exclusiveness because company create them and decide who can and cannot be part of it, but this brings to a lack of visibity which lower the effectiveness of them. The company can choose the first page to be visible with after the first click on its name, this is called landing page. This is as important as the first impression for a single person. The company should create this page in order to give a good and clear image of itself, which attracts people and invite them to remain on that page. Some kinds of posts that company can make on their wall to be attractive are: pictures, videos, coupons or special offers, useful links for clients, promotion and interesting information like a new product coming soon into the market.

Some ways to measure the Return On Investment

In order to measure the payoff of the investment in Social Media, companies have to know the baseline and establish a timeline. Afer that they should compare the investment with the number of transaction and the amount of money spent by customers per transaction in order to understand the size of sales. The gain should be much bigger than the costs in order to obtain a positive ROI. But the value of using social media is not only made by numbers, marketers can also measure the efffectiveness of Social Media looking at the number of customers, in particulare the new ones. The number of click can also be used, paying attention to the three level of this element: views, transactions and cart. This means that a big number of views is not directly related with a high number of transactions and maybe customers are stocked in the "cart-zone". The goal of Social Media marketers is to translate the views into transactions. Mentions are another good way to look at the effectiveness of Social Media, but is always important to classify them into positive and negative in order to follow up the latter.

The importance of Social Media for both organization and people

Social Media have revolutioned our way to think at Marketing, becoming a crucial part of it. Social Media gave to public the oportunity to express itself and share its ideas. As we know public can either help or hurt us, for this reason it is very important to know how to leverage social networks as a strenght. A Marketing Strategy should include the use of Social Media because the organization needs to be visible on the web in order to survive. At the same time social media is a source of information useful for the organization in order to build the marketing strategy.
Market myself is also possible through Social Media. I can use this tool to improve my network, become visible to organization or people I like and increase my opportunity in different ways. In order to market myself I need to have a brand which allows me to be recognizable. The brand has to be consistent in order to be remembered.

I' attending a Social Media Marketing class because I recognize its importance in today world. During my scholar career I went through this big change about how communication between organizations and customers has changed. I hope to learn how to use social media effectively in order to be successful in my future career and support the company I will work for with the competences I will aquire. I will apply social media marketing to the specific kind of company and needs it will have in order to make it distinctive on the market.
